Lincoln Douglas

Debate

One-on-one debating. LD is a more philosophical style of debate. It relies on logic, ethical values, and philosophy. Typically present are issues related to morality, justice, democracy, etc. Resolutions are changed every two months by the Nation Forensic League, which gives plenty of time for research and participants to construct their cases. In addition to researching both sides of a topic, participants will be needed to debate both sides. LD debating originated in 1858 when there was a Senate Race between Abraham Lincoln and Stephan Douglas. Although the debating style wasn’t exact to today’s modern LD debates, the adversative nature was similar.
